Ahhhhh! I'm taking my last vacation day of the year tomorrow/Friday. It always seems to take a day of vegging to get into vacation mode. So picture me asleep instead behind the mic tomorrow. That's my plan anyway. But you know how plans go. Chances are I'll be riding my kids to get their homework done! Have a happy new year--and join me back at work on Tuesday 1/3/12.

The Fourth of July is one of those holidays that brings back memories of being a kid. That's what's so neat about finding yourself a spot on the sidewalk of Downtown Morgan Hill for a tradition that spans 3 centuries! It started back in the late 1800s and is still wonderful, old-fashioned family fun. I got my "gold bar" pin at the parade meeting last night for being a KBAY announcer in the parade for the past 5 years. But I've been marching in it since my boys were Cub Scouts back in the 1990s. Hello June--and more rain?? Ah well, tomorrow's going to be close to 70--AND it's YOUR DAY to find out if you get to fly your family to DISNEYLAND! What's extra fun is that you'll be hearing me doing the show from Disneyland's California Adventure tomorrow. Going on trips, even for just a day, you're like--did I pack EVERYTHING I need? If I sound a little tiny bit distracted on the air today, it's just me going over my "to-take" list before my flight this afternoon.

Have a wonderful Christmas and really Happy New Year! 'See you back on 94.5 KBAY on January 4th!
You love to imagine sweet little kids anticipating opening their gifts on Christmas morning. The U.S. Marines make that happen for children that are otherwise facing a less-than-cheery day. This year you can make yur TOYS FOR TOTS donation later than usual due to the increasing neediness.

Can you imagine how devestated the folks at C.O.M.E. (Community Outreach Ministry Endeavor) must have felt when they realized their donations of gifts for their needy kids fell through? SAM VANZANDT got a call this morning from one of the organization's members, DEE DEE, who said they're short 500 toys--and giveaway day is coming up. If you'd like to help take up the slack, call Dee Dee at 408-978-1863. They're accepting new and nice-condition USED toys at the parking lot of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 374 So. 3rd Street in San Jose.

How's this for a cozy idea that won't cost you? Wear your robe backward instead of investing in a Snuggie! I thought it was a great idea, but apparently there's a big Snuggie fan club. I posted the comment on FACEBOOK and got a ton of pro-Snuggie votes--who knew?

I hope this doesn't ruin your favorite sitcom, but when you focus on an annoyance it can drive you crazy. Reruns of my fave shows last night got me tuning around to Two and a Half Men which would have been a lot more hilarious if my son Chris hadn't commented, Mom, why do shows still use LAUGH TRACKS? Once you notice 'em, laugh tracks can be truly hideous!

Wouldn't it be a trip to see snow on your lawn here in the Bay Area? We got some flurries in, I think it was late December of 1997. My son Chris called it the BEST day of his 8 years of life! It really came down in February of 1976, just before my brother Joey's 8th birthday. What a treat to get home after working the nightshift (so glad I'm on the air during the daytime these days) and be greeted by a kid throwing California snow at you!

Half of the office is down with a lousy cold. What would you give for a shot for THAT!? Thank goodness for the flu vaccine--but a little warning. You'll avoid the needle with that flu-mist, but comments on my Facebook lean toward feelin' yukky after snorting it. My high-schooler, JEFF, tried it knowing that it's the live virus, and yeah--he was sniffly, achey, and pooped-out all weekend. The good news is he's innoculated!

Dreaming of JOHN LENNON today--gone for 30 years today. 'Bet you remember where you where when you heard the news. I was just arriving at my old radio station to do the night shift--lots of tears and requests that night.
It's another Tuesday with a brand-new GLEE, and the classic of Christmas classics, A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS, is on at the same time. Sheesh! Last week, when it was up against 3 or 4 holiday specials, Glee won out in the ratings--and our house too. I guess I'm a gleek.

The one thing you wanted to see on last night's MTV Video Awards show was how TAYLOR SWIFT would respond to last year's KANYE WEST disruption. I think she was a class act and did what she does best--wrote a song that tells him he's only human. Even so, she was supposedly "a wreck" before singing it. What do you think of what she sang? Here are the lyrics...
I guess you really did it this time
Left yourself in your war path
Lost your balance on a tightrope
Lost your mind trying to get it back
Always a bigger bed to crawl into
Wasn't it beautiful when you believed in everything
And everybody believed in you?
Your streaming lights are still bright to me oh
Who you are is not what you've been
You're still an innocent
You're still an innocent
But tonight you'll leave it all again
You wouldn't be shattered on the floor now
If only you would sing only what you know ...
And everything out of reach, someone bigger brought down to you
Wasn't it beautiful running wild till you fell asleep
Before the monsters caught up to you?
Your streaming lights are still bright to me oh
Who you are is not who you've been
You're still an innocent
It's OK, life is a tough crowd
32 and still growing up now
Who you are is not what you did
You're still an innocent
You'll have new Septembers
Every one of us has messed up too
Mind change like the weather
I hope you remember today is never too late
To be brave (ohh)
Your streaming lights are bright to me oh
Who you are is not where you've been
You're still an innocent
It's OK, life is a tough crowd
32 and still growing up now
Who you are is not what you did
You're still an innocent
Lost your balance on a tightrope
It's never too late to get it back

You can love LOU REED again and blame "a glitch". His reps say he never turned down SUSAN BOYLE'S request to sing his song on America's Got Talent. That doesn't explain his saying, "I'm not a fan of her." (Let's hope he really said something nicer.)

You must have a soft spot in your heart for Britain's Got Talent contestant, SUSAN BOYLE. I've been a fan of rocker LOU REED (Take a Walk on the Wild Side) over the years but this probably doesn't sit right with you. Why does it seem that the hotter it is outside, the colder the air conditioning is at work? Restaurants REALLY seem to crank it up! This is one of the posts I put on Facebook that you can add to. So far you either agree wholeheartedly and have examples of how to layer sweaters (or in MY recent case, the car emergency blanket)! Or you can't get enough of the frigid blast. LISSA KREISLER and I both lean toward naturally freezing. We became friends years ago over this topic when we worked together at another radio station with a guy who insisted on dressing in 3-piece wool suits, who would have set the thermometer at 55 if he could. I think we finally got him to ditch the vest!

One thing you learn as a parent that's had kids in school awhile--HOLD OFF on buying school supplies until you get the "list". You can stock up on binders that are a half inch too skinny or the wrong-ruled paper, and spiral notebooks with pages that don't rip out as teacher says. Don't worry when you don't hear me on the air the next day--I'll be on vacation. Enjoy hearing my pals SYLVIA CHACON (Mon-Thurs) and LAURIE ROBERTS (Fri & Sun). See you back on Monday 8/16.

You don't get an offer like this very often--or ever! JOHN LENNON would have turned 70 in October of this year. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame invites you to come up with some well-wishes or other birthday tribute to John. It'll be sealed up in one of the 3 official time capsules that will be opened ceremoniously in 30 years. Let me know if you take part! You can contact me via Facebook or at jhamilton@kbay.com.
Be part of the tribute> http://www.boxofvision.com/TimeCapsule/

Please tell me you don't know anyone like this--it certainly can't be YOU! A new study shows 38% of women prey on other women – giving fake praise to someone who's "not as hot", or making an attractive gal less-so by doing something like spilling a drink on her? I guess they're not ALL on daytime dramas! If you ever encountered this kind of nastiness in real life, join me on Facebook to tell me!

Does your alarm clock have a mind of its own? Mine must have thought it was doing me a favor by losing 15 minutes overnight! Less time for breakfast, but still plenty to go for the free LASAGNA at Buca di Beppo tonight (It's National Lasagna Day)!

You must have bumped into people from your neighborhood far away from home. Coincidentally, "It's a Small World" at Disneyland is where I bumped into a guy who'd gone to elementary school with me when I lived in the Chicago area! Then last weekend, imagine the surprise when I arrived to buy this cool light fixture from a lady on CRAIGSLIST. She answered the door and we were like, "Hey! We met at KBAY's Studio 94 party!" (Of course, haggling was out of the question!!)

Some people are ready to party at the drop of a hat. Some have evolved to the responsible, BUSY stage of life. That's what makes birthdays such a good, respectable reason to blow off some steam. You may have known KBAY afternoon guy, DANA JANG as a voice on your radio going back to the 1970s. Somewhere along the line, his birthday became the catalyst for whooping it up. Now it's a tradition--everyone EXPECTS something in mid-July!! If you detect some extra "enthusiasm" on the air in the morning--blame it on woo-hooing!

Can you believe that about two-thirds of summer is kaput? I turned in my vacation request for early August and realized that the day I get back will also be back-to-school for my son, Jeff. After tomorrow's big summer-final swim-meet it's time to change gears. I don't know about you--but summertime is never long enough. 'Gotta start making that big ol' to-do list for time off!

Welcome back LISSA KREISLER on Monday! You also get to hear newest KBAY guy-on-the-mic, CHRIS JACKSON in the morning for another week while SAM'S on the mend. CHRIS cracked me up this morning talking about how he's coerced interviewees like MICK JAGGER into talking about topics they hate. Use reverse psychology--it seems so simple! That's exactly what I use to convince myself that another birthday is a reason to celebrate getting older--IT WORKS! If today's your birthday too-- ****************HAVE A HECKUVA HAPPY ONE!****************
(DANA JANG'S, LISSA'S and MICK'S are just days away!)
Try saying these words, "It's great to be back at work"! Now try it again, with FEELING. After the holidays, you'll go for ANY ploy to keep you upbeat! It's a new year--count your blessings. For me it's being grateful it's NOT the "good old days" when needles got knocked off of records playing on the air--and radio stations paid you in records and sandwiches! (I posted this comment on my Facebook, and my favorite response was, "...and playing songs at the wrong speed!--Thanks Jeff Cloninger)
