Saw this today and all I could do is shake my head....and say “guilty as charged”.
The survey that 1 in 4 pay more attention to what the Internet says than their doctor.
How many times do you Google your symptoms to see what might be wrong with you..or your kids...or your friends...
and then accept what you read and say to yourself...yep..that must be it.
Well, guess what...that probably isn't “it”. Researchers Googled peoples symptoms than compared the results to the peoples actual illnesses...and what the Internet said was right just a little more than half the time.
I guess I'd better stop playing Dr....and pick up the phone and call the real DR. LOL!!
First off...perhaps I should apologize for my never ending photos from Disneyland and
the birthday “dessert” bar which I seemed to be at daily.
My daughters and I might have gotten carried away....LOL!!!
And believe it or not..I left out the “unflattering” photos and there were many of those.
Although one did slip out for a few hours.....95 likes later I realized that it was not a good picture of my tummy. LOL
And sure enough..Sam and I this morning found the 5 most unflattering summer photos and #1 was photos where you're sitting down and leaning forward (usually in a bathing suit) with your gut/..ie tummy front and center. Bathing suit shots you'll never see of me...but there was that one with the “tummy”.
#2 Don't share photos that show off your muffin top.
#3 Photos with a double chin
#4 Photos where you're obviously drunk
#5 Photos where you're just out of the pool and your hair is wet. Looks good only on models.
There's gotta be a number 6...what is it?
I'm thinking it might be the photo with silly Minnie Mouse ears.!!!
It's a funny thing about vacation.....as wonderful as it was...it's good to be back...good to be back in a routine...and good to be back doing what I so love. Just maybe KBAY is the second happiest place on Earth. Well, for me it is …....
But Ive got to tell you Disneyland is just a blast...hot..crowded...kids crying at 2 in the afternoon, but I have never laughed and smiled as much as I did last week with my two girls. When Mike was alive, we went every year...always had a great time...and I kep the tradition going even after his death. I was going twice a year..but usually with friends. This time though...it was different...Christina and Victoria are now grown ups.....we took our time...never even used a fast pass as Tori and I are not into the rides that have them...and theyve made it more difficult to get them as well. But we got into the park an hour early every day as we stayed at one of the park resorts, we stayed till about 2..then went to the pool...
and returned in the evening. Everything was just so easy....and we had so much time....3 full days in both parks. We did World of Color....got preferred seating by eating at one of the park restaurants that has a dining-show meal... we got to the Cars Land first thing...rode the new ride Radiator Springs.. which is great...and then got over to Toy Story and actually did that a few times.
And even with the heat and the crowds..and its crazy in the summer...most of the disneyland workers are a joy....happy to be there...happy to talk to you and if you wear a button..happy to say happy birthday.
With Victoria married and Christina about to be...I never know if this is my “last vacation” with just them...so I made the most of it. It was one of my best weeks ever!!!
If you know anything at all about me you know I love flip flops and purses. I love to shop period.
I absolutely adore my two daughters Victoria and Christina, I watch way too much TV, and I do think that Disneyland is the Happiest Place on Earth. I dream of living on Main Street in Walt’s old apartment..LOL and I always tease when I die I’m coming back as Disneyland’s PR Director. I love the place. I think it’s no coincidence that it opened just a few days before my birthday and that I will be there next week with my daughters for some early birthday celebrating.
We were talking this morning about the day it opened . 28 thousand people showed up. Half were invited guests the other half bought counterfeit tickets. It was 101 outside..and the asphalt that was only a few hours old was so soft women’s high heels were sinking.
I always laugh when I see people wearing high heels at Disneyland. I of course am in flip flops. There was a plumbers strike so Walt had to pick between running toilets and running water fountains. He went with the toilets which meant everyone had to buy soda from Pepsi which was the opening day sponsor so people thought it was all part of a devious plan. There was a gas leak that closed Fantasyland, Frontierland and Adventure Land and the next day, there were twice as many people and they got in line at 2am.
You might want to keep this handy. Or maybe not…
We shared this at 7:10 today….the cut off age for different things.
1000 people were given a list of a bunch of “when you’re too old to do”
Certain things….and this is what they decided. See if you agree with any of them.

Loved the show Friends and love my friends even more.
I couldn’t live without them and I don’t know about you but the older I get
the closer I get to my friends and the more I need them in my life.
Love the study released today…that says your friends are your friends not by accident but by choice. And without realizing it you search out your friends…that you gravitate to people who have similar DNA . Of course we find people who are like us, but this study says your genes match about 1% of your friend’s genes. Doesn’t sound like much but its about what you have with a fourth cousin. So the bottom line is you chose friends who resemble you on a genetic level. Think about that from a moment….pick your closest friends. How many traits do you share? So see..no coincidence…you have the friends you should !!! I know I do.
Had the time of my life at the Giants game yesterday.
Great seats (thanks Sam) an Angel Pagan bobble head,
2 grand slams, fun times but then there’s this…
Don’t laugh…but you know what I had to eat?
A Greek Salad wrap. Please don’t tell Sam. Don’t tell anyone.
I love hot dogs, I love burgers, I love fries, peanuts, cracker jack.. ice cream…I love it all…
But at the final moment I panicked and picked a stupid lettuce wrap…LOL.
I was looking for the carving station up in the club section. Sam told me how to get there….I found all the displays of the Giants Momentos. I found the baked potato booth. Jeff found the Farmers Market. He had an eggplant Panini and some sort of antipasto salad with sourdough… I found the pizza…the grill….but never the carving station. And by that time I was gone so long I took whatever I could find and that was a Greek Salad. And actually she made it for me as a salad…and I really annoyed her when I said “Don’t these come in a wrap?” She remade it for me. It did fill me up so I never did get peanuts, Cracker Jack or Ghiradelli Ice Cream. And between you and me I felt bad the whole time…I finally get to go to a Giants game and what do I do I eat HEALTHY! Just wrong!!!. Now go ahead, tell me what you eat when you go to the game. Make me feel bad again..LOL
Or help me so …..
Next time will be different…I promise!!! http://www.facebook.com/SamVanZandtKBAY https://www.facebook.com/KBAYlissa
Most common thing to do on a weekend?
Got to be eating out!!!
Although when you don’t cook any day is a good day to eat out..LOL
But we saw this today…and immediately thought “right on”.
See how many of these come true when you eat out this weekend.
They’re the ten most common complaints at restaurants. And you’re now they’re pretty much true when you read them in Consumer Reports
1. Dirty utensils or a dirty table . .
2. Dirty bathrooms.
3. Rude or condescending servers.
4. Servers with poor hygiene or a sloppy look.
5. Meals served at the wrong temperature.
6. Being served something you didn't order.
7. Feeling rushed to finish or leave by the server.
8. The server taking away your plate before you finish.
9. Food that doesn't look or taste as good as it's described in the menu.
10. Slow service.
Shoes, purses and jeans…
I have way too many of each.
They’re the simplest things for me to buy.
So I am a perfect candidate for whets about to happen at Happy Hollow Park and Zoo…and I hope you are too.
Happy Hollow from the 20-27th of July is collecting denim…and believe it or not it’s to help save giraffes. All the denim in your closet or drawers that you don’t wear anymore…because it’s out of style or it doesn’t fit or it’s a weird color can be brought to Happy Hollow Park and Zoo in San Jose…and it will all be recycled to raise money to support giraffe research and to protect giraffe populations in Africa. Any pair of jeans will do, even those that are old and “well loved”.
All you do is drop off jeans at the Guest Services, Administration Services Building or on your next visit. It will take you just a minute…and the giraffes will thank you!!
And then you and I can meet to go jeans shopping…LOL!!! Who knows maybe we'll find a purse and or a pair of shoes as well!!!
What’s in your purse?
If you get US Weekly you see the segment every week.
I always look at it…It cracks me up..
So this week actress Olivia Munn has Bed, Bath and Beyond coupons.
Extra contact lenses
Packets of salt to mix with ginger ale in case she gets motion sickness
Giorgio Armani’s Rouge Ecstacy lip stain.
Among other things..
So I just looked in my purse….Don’t ask. No wonder the thing weighs a ton.
Small wallet to hold coupons
Big wallet to hold credit cards, receipts and more coupons and all sorts of stuff that I don’t need. Very little money BTW.
Make up bag
Day calendar ( yes, I still use one)
Check book with coupons hanging out
Sunglasses in a box
Separate little billfold type wallet that has insurance cards , drivers license AAA card that I take to the gym.
Dozens of coupons including Bed, Bath and Beyond that don’t fit into my coupon wallets
Tic Tacs, hand sanitizer, calculator, pens , aspirin and cell phone.
No sour lemon for this story.
This one is as sweet as can be which is why we used it this morning
At 6:40 For “Isn’t that Nice. And I’ll tell you right now it truly is nice!!!
There’s a 7 year old in British Colombia. Brayden is his name. He has cerebral palsy and walks with a brace. But his parents were recently told he could walk without a brace with a certain type of surgery. Sounds great except that the surgery cost $20K and they can’t afford it. Plus they had to fly to New Jersey for it.
Here it comes!!!!! Quinn is one of Braydens best buddies. He is also 7. When he found out about the surgery he told his parents he wanted to set up a lemonade stand to raise the $20 grand. Mom and Dad said great. They let the community know about the lemonade and the Dads workplace which happened to be the fire department. So a good start, but certainly not enough so Mom started a webpage on the site YouCaring.com and shared it on Facebook. Guess what they’ve raised so far? $50 thousand . Thank goodness it was more than the 35K the guy making the potato salad raised (lol) Hope you heard about that silly story this morning. Anyway…Brayden and his Mom and Dad are flying to New Jersey next month so he can have the surgery.
So 53 days till Labor Day weekend!!!
Just in case you were wondering….
Isn’t it true we live from holiday to holiday.
Didn’t get a chance to hear about the big fireworks show in downtown San Jose Friday night. Tell me, was it great?.
I heard it was!!!!! I know my friends in San Jose Rotary loved it!!! Sort of odd though that there wasn’t any kind of show or emceeing….that all of a sudden the fireworks started . Maybe next time…although that’s how it’s done in other towns. You have people gathering on the grass and finally the fireworks begin. Our crew at the KBAY Booth said we were packed…...that every prize we had was gone by the time the show began. And that everyone was in a great mood and having a ton of fun.!!!
Hopefully someone will sponsor the fireworks again next year. We can’t count on the Rotary every year. Who knows maybe the city will have the money to put it on next year. A friend of mine..Maury Kendall reminded me of how wonderful it was when we had the big festival during the day leading up to the fireworks. And we sort of did. The Bacon festival was downtown!!! LOL!!!!
All I know is that I had a wonderful time in Morgan Hill…being part of their annual parade. Always makes me feel bad that the city puts on such a wonderful parade, attended by thousands but never really gets attention outside of town. When different media outlets list parades..they rarely mention Morgan Hill’s but maybe that’s a good thing as I don’t know how many more people could line the parade route. We’re talking thousands. Sometimes I think the whole town is there…along with some Gilroy, San Martin and San Jose folks. Morgan Hill has community spirit…that’s for sure…and not just on July 4th..but every day!!! And I love that they ask me back every year!!!
Already thinking of next July 4?
If you were in charge, what would be done differently?
Hope you’re going to get downtown tomorrow to enjoy the
Fireworks show that the San Jose Rotary is so generously paying for.
We haven’t had fireworks downtown since 2008. Was always such a great show…and a great sense of community. The show will start from Discovery Meadow about 9:30 but you’ll need to get down there early to deal with the crowds and find a spot. VTA is the way to go. And do stop by the KBAY booth….Our crew is all stocked up with fun July 4th stuff…for our prize wheel.
July 4th always a walk down memory lane for me. I grew up on Camden Avenue and we had a safe and sane fireworks stand right across the street…and my poor Dad would run back a nd forth all night long buying more stuff because half of what we had in the box never worked…Duds!! Except for the silly snakes that left charcoal all over the sidewalk for the year to come. And remember those silly sparklers…they were supposed to be safe but I swear I singed my hair every year….and screamed while I was waving them!!!. But it was so much fun…all the neighbors were out on the street…giving advice on why the fireworks weren’t working…or sitting on our lawn because they didn’t buy any…It was Americana alright....and so much fun!!
Bring back the good ole days!!!
I think we all have a July 4th memory that just makes us smile. What’s yours? http://www.facebook.com/SamVanZandtKBAY https://www.facebook.com/KBAYlissa
This may be the most important lesson of the week…
Hot Dog Etiquette (lol)
But you need this for this July 4th weekend because who doesn’t want to eat at least one hot dog the next few days. It is Hot Dog Month after all, and it’s “Celebrate America” and aren’t hot dogs as American as apple pie?
So we got these from the people who know…the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council which means they must be correct.
Never use a cloth napkin to wipe your mouth when eating a hot dog.
Paper is always the right way.
Eat hot dogs on buns with your hands.
Never let a fork or knife touch a hot dog on a bun.
Use paper plates to serve hot dogs.
Every day dishes are acceptable but never china.
And don’t take more than 5 bites to finish a hot dog, 7 if it’s a foot long.
Sam added one more…never put condiments on your bun but always on the hot dog. You can’t dress your buns!!!
Your turn…What’s your rule?
Cutest story of the day…... about the woman in Wisconsin who lost her
wedding ring six years ago.
Lois is her name. Lives in Wisconsin. She and her husband were married 20 years when they got her a bigger diamond. She loved it…although she hadn’t yet got it insured but wore it anyway. Not for long though…it disappeared.
6 years went by…never found it. Had given up. Last week, Lois’s family dog
Tucker the Rottweiler who eats everything, swallowed an entire popsicle…stick and all.
So Lois called the vet…who had her induce vomiting. How, I don’t know, but it worked and Tucker threw up the stick. While she’s cleaning up, she noticed something sparkling. Turns out Tucker had eaten her ring six years ago and it had been lodged in his stomach ever since….ever since he ate the popsicle stick!!! The vet thinks the stick dislodged it.
Lois cleaned the ring with a toothbrush…says it looks brand new.
