This may be the furthest thing from your mind…but maybe you can pass it on to a child or a friend…or anyone you know who is still looking for that “one in a million” person!!!
 
Match.Com out with the 4 worst date outfits for Men and Women..
For Men: Sweatpants, flip flops and shorts (unless of course you’re hiking or going to a park) any clothing covered in pet hair, gold chains. Yes, definitely gold chains!!!
 
For Women: UGGS, Anything a “trollop” would wear.
A top that shows too much cleavage and long, fake fingernails.
 
OK..Advice   From your own experience, what else would you list? Worst outfits for dates? For some reason, Sam and I got the biggest chuckle out of this today. Maybe because we no longer have to worry about dating.

Never hang out with people on a diet unless you’re on one too!!!
Everything I look at these days seems to have something to do with a diet.
Sam and I found this today….the menu items with the most calories at certain fast food places.
 
Burger King BREAKFAST PLATTER has 1,450 calories, and takes two hours of basketball to burn off.     
McDonald's BIG BREAKFAST has 1,350 calories.  That takes four hours of cycling.
KFC 10-piece bag of CHICKEN BITES has 1,300 calories.  That would take five hours of dancing.
Wendy's three-quarter-pound DAVE'S HOT 'N' JUICY burger has 1,120 calories.  That's four hours of bowling.
STEAK and WHITE CHEDDER on baguette from Panera Bread has 980 calories.  That takes two hours of low-impact aerobics to burn off. 
Taco Bell's VOLCANIC NACHOS has 970 calories.  That's an hour of tae kwon do.     
Subway MEGA MELT on FLATBREAD with egg has 660 calories.  You'll need to rollerblade for an hour.  
And a SLICE of Pizza Hut's 14-inch LARGE MEAT LOVER'S PAN PIZZA has 470 calories.  That's an hour's worth of weight training.
 
As I said this morning…stick to the yogurt for breakfast. 2 points on Weight Watchers if you get Yoplait!!!!

Got so caught up with 3rd row seats to Lionel Richie and the Supreme Court rulings against both Prop 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act that our stressed out Moms didn’t get the attention they deserved this morning…
 
So here it is. A survey that the average mom feels stressed at least 5 times a day…and the most stressful time of the day is 11:56 am, followed by 8:01 am…
 
And why those times? 11:56…it’s lunch time and you still haven’t gotten around to all the stuff you had to do. 8:01 is when you often need to get everyone out the door…and 5-30 is the third most stressful time because all of a sudden it’s dinner time.
 
The most stressful situation is going to the grocery store with kids. The rest of the top five are Juggling housework with taking care of kids..the chaos of the morning…trying to get kids to eat and preparing different meals for picky kids.
 
Stay at home Moms…don’t know how you do it!!! I applaud you…respect you… and bow to you!!!
You are all “the bomb”…

Had so much fun with this today.

The 15 signs you are getting old.

Here they are:

 

1.  Feeling stiff. 

2.  Groaning when you bend down. 

3.  Saying, "It wasn't like that when I was young." 

4.  Saying, "Back in my day." 

5.  Losing your hair. 

6.  Not recognizing any songs in the Top 10. 

7.  Hairy ears, bushy eyebrows, and extra nose and facial hair. 

8.  Hating noisy bars and restaurants. 

9.  Talking a lot about your joints, or your day-to-day aches and pains.

 10.  Forgetting people's names. 

11.  Choosing clothes and shoes for comfort over style. 

12.  Thinking cops, teachers, and doctors look young. 

13.  Falling asleep in front of the TV. 

14.  Needing an afternoon nap. 

15.  Finding you have no idea what young people are talking about.

 

The bad news is if you already have many of these symptoms you are old.

The good news is if you don’t have more than 1 or 2 you’re not as old as you think!!!

Don’t know who comes up with this stuff.
But it did catch our eye this morning..
 
3 new summer vacation things to worry about:
 

  1. Cheating . A new survey says about 1 in 3 people cheat on their significant other when they go on vacation solo and 6% of people even cheat when they vacation together.
  2. Skin cancer. About 2 in 5 people say they have intentionally gotten a sunburn on vacation because it will work into a nice tan. But by getting sunburned just once every two years, you triple your risk of getting skin cancer.
  3. Heart attacks. The top cause of death on vacation is a heart attack. And with the death of James Gandolfini last week, maybe we should pay attention. The mix of eating poorly, temperature changes, alcohol, mental stress and even walking a lot and getting exercise can increase your risk. Its most likely to happen the first two days of your trip.
 
You know what? Forget Number One .Wear a hat and suntan lotion for Number Two…and try and pace yourself for Number Three…and go have yourself a great vacation!!!!

Summer is here…so what comes next? Sunburns..

Common sunburn treatment myths:
   Myth: Vinegar compresses help your sunburn.
   Fact: Vinegar has an anti-bacterial effect, so if you have blisters, vinegar can help dry them out and prevent infections. But it’s going to hurt. You may want to cut the acid by diluting with water.
 
   Myth: Noxzema and other menthol products will help your burn.
   Fact: True. The menthol will cool the skin. And camphor in Noxzema is a minor pain reliever.
  

   Myth: Aloe Vera is awesome for sunburns.
   Fact: Yes, but... aloe allergies are very common. If you rub it on your skin directly from the plant, test your skin first. Put a mild moisturizer on top of it. If you buy an aloe-based product, avoid gels or anything with alcohol. It will sting and dry out your skin.

Dermatologist Approved Sunburn Treatment Recommendations:
 
   --Take an anti-inflammatory medication like aspirin or ibuprofen.
   --Rub in an anti-inflammatory cream like 1-percent hydrocortisone as soon as possible.
   -- Apply cool compresses of water or water-plus-milk to further decrease inflammation.
   --Do not pick at blisters or peeling skin. You could get an infection or scars.
   --Apply a mild moisturizer to the burned area. You can even leave it in the fridge so it’s nice and cold when you put it on.


And what’s the very best advice. Next time you go out put on sunscreen!!!!

I’m on this diet kick
Trying to lose weight of course…and eat better!!!.
It’s Weight Watchers…so I’m eating fruits and veggies like never before. I even fried (with PAM ) zucchini and added that to my WW frozen meal the other night!!
 
And even worse…I’m reading about good health …LOL!!!
 
So here’s what I saw today.
5 musts to becoming healthier…and you need to start right away.
 

  1. Stop smoking.  (I don’t do that anyway and don’t know many who still do)
  2. Get a Life—(I think I already have one) But you’re supposed to get a strong sense of self, a support system and learn how to deal with stress.
  3. Learn to cook- (Why I ask if WW has frozen meals)
  4. Floss- We all know why we’re supposed to do that. For some reason I can’t make it a habit. Easiest thing in the world and I can’t seem to do it. Hopefully you’re better at it.
  5. Walk Everywhere- A daily 30 minute stroll may be the closest thing there is  to a wonder drug.
 
How many have you already mastered? You feeling healthier? LOL!!!

This one surprised me but maybe it shouldn’t.
Men don’t know much about their women!!
According to a new survey, half of all men don’t know their wife or girlfriends dress size.
7 of 10 don’t know their bra size.
4 out of 10 don’t know her shoe size.
1 in 3 doesn’t know her favorite perfume.
1 in 8 don’t even know what food she likes.
And 3 of 4 don’t think it’s even important to know these things!!
Really?
 
 
How much does your guy know about you? I understand not knowing the bra size, but I think after time, he’d know the other things. Well, maybe not the shoe size.
 
And if you are the guy…why don’t you know these things? LOL

SO the H-P Pavilion is now the S-A-P Pavilion..
Orchard Supply Hardware is selling a lot of its stores to Lowes…and the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon is now called the MDA Show of Strength TV.
My times have changed. My Mom must be turning over in her grave about now. That was our Labor Day weekend forever. She and I would stay up all night watching Jerry and all of his guests. And yes, she did give money…not a lot but she did make a pledge every year. Jerry was forced off the show a year or two ago and even before that, the allotted time of the telethon was reduced and the number of TV stations that carried it went way down..Now this year, it’s been reduced to two hours…9-11 pm on Sunday on ABC. It will be part of the ABC Labor Day weekend…and the executive producer of the show is now R.A. Clark who happens to be Dick Clark’s son. I’m guessing the emcees for the 2 hour telethon will be people from Good Morning America like Sam Champion…
 
I’m glad my Mom is not here to see…She would be so upset

Not really the best time of year to start dieting…
Summer..with ice cream, margaritas, and vacation desserts.
We all know what those are. I’m going to Hawaii so it’s Hula Pie.
Every state or country has some dessert specialty.
 
But guess what I started? Yep…Sam too.
I’m doing Weight Watchers and I have more than my typical “3 pounds” to lose.
My first weigh in Saturday…I lost 1.8 pounds.
When I did Weight Watchers  over 10 years ago…I lost over 3 pounds that first weekend.
 
But I’m ten years older now and I guess I have no metabolism. LOL!!
 
Anyway…I saw a story again this morning…that the best weight tool is not the scale but a timer..that fast eaters are as much as 18 pounds heavier than slow eaters.
  A grilled chicken breast, with a side salad, fries (hey, I want to know what diet that is) and a glass of water should take you at least
 32 minutes to eat.  SO as I eat on my coffee table in front of the TV, I need to pace myself during the hour show so that I’m not done till it’s half over.   I will try it tonite!!!

I don’t know about you but my favorite thing in life--
well,  almost my favorite thing is to nap.
I so love  naps….and maybe because I generally only get 4 hours of sleep a night, maybe 5 and it’s never solid sleep. I look at the clock every hour or two to see if its 2-30 a.m and time to get up.
 
But getting back to this favorite past-time called sleep…..
Saw a story this morning that if you’re always tired…it may be your pillows fault.
You’re supposed to get a new pillow every 12-18 months. Who does that? You?
 
And using an old pillow…or the wrong kind of pillow can literally be a pain in the neck.
So here are the three rules about pillows.
 

1.  If you sleep on your stomach, you should be using a thin, flat pillow that doesn't have much stuffing.  Bigger pillows tend to make you sleep awkwardly on your neck. If that STILL hurts your neck, and you're thinking of buying a new bed, consider a firm mattress with a thin pillow top, so you can sleep on your stomach WITHOUT a pillow.
 
 2.  If you sleep on your back, you should probably be using a soft or medium-firm pillow that fills the space between the bed and your neck.  Memory pillows also work well.
  
3.  If you're a side sleeper, look for an over-stuffed pillow that gives you even MORE support under your neck.  They also prevent you from sleeping with all your weight on one shoulder.
 
Just did a whole blog about sleeping…and didn’t once mention Sleep Train!! But now that I have...tell em’ Sam and Lissa sent you…LOL!!!

When was the last time you got a really good bargain on a trip?
So happens I’m going to Honolulu in July with Christina and my favorite hotel had a deal going….book early and save …so I did!!!
I think the room is $279 a night for a partial ocean….something like that…although throw in taxes and all of a sudden its still way up there.
 
But sure enough Trip Advisor says Honolulu is the most expensive city in the nation to visit. Put in a hotel night, dinner for two…cocktails for two…a back a nd forth taxi ride and you’re over $500  a day…Almost the same amount to stay in  New York…and then slightly cheaper in Boston, San Francisco and Chicago.
 
The top five least expensive cities in America…
Vegas, followed by Miami, Dallas, Atlanta and Portland
 
A few other costly facts for vacation…
Average nightly rate for a 4 stare hotel has gone up almost 20% since last summer.
Orlando and Denver rate hikes were even bigger. The South is the most affordable region in the nation and Asia is the most affordable overseas.
For international travel Oslo, Norway is the costliest. Sofia, Bulgaria the best bargain!!!

Immature men…caught my eye right away!!
 
A new study say the average man doesn’t emotionally mature until age 43….11 years later than the average woman.  So one sentence explains away your marriage or your friends marriage or just life in general..LOL!!!
 
And 8 of ten women  all ask the same thing….Do men really ever mature?
 
Here’s the list….of the most immature things guys do…and in order!!!
 
 Finding it HILARIOUS when they burp or pass gas.
 
Eating fast food at 2:00 A.M.
 
Playing video games.
 
Driving too fast.
 
Laughing at swear words.
 
Playing loud music when they drive.
 
Playing practical jokes.
 
Trying too hard to beat kids at games and sports.
 
Staying quiet during arguments.
 
Not being able to cook simple meals.
 
Re-telling the same stupid jokes and stories when they're with their guy friends.
 
Not wanting to talk about themselves.
 
Doing crazy dance moves.

Who knew that a coffee maker had so many uses….other than making coffee?
The stuff we find every morning… like the websites dedicated to all the other things you can make with a coffee maker.
 
  
1.  Hot Dogs.  Just run six-to-eight cups of water through the coffeemaker, then leave the burner on and toss the hot dogs in. Keep them in for 30 minutes. 8 minutes for a hard boiled egg. 
 
2.  Poached Chicken.  Essentially, all you need is some chicken breast, some butter, and some water, and you let it cook in the coffee pot for 15 minutes on each side.   
 
3.  Grilled Cheese Sandwiches.  Just remove the pot, wipe down the burner, and cook each sandwich like you normally would if you were using a pan.
  
4.  Anything "Instant."  This one's kind of obvious, but coffeemakers are great for things like oatmeal or ramen noodles, because all you have to do is add hot water and wait a few minutes.
  
5.  Vegetables.  You can do it two different ways.  You can steam them by putting them in the filter basket, and then running water through the coffeemaker a few times. Or you can just fill the pot with hot water, dump the vegetables in, and let them cook until they're tender.
 
 
6. Chocolate Fondue.  All you have to do is heat up some cream in the coffee pot for about 15 minutes . . . add in pieces of a chocolate bar and let them melt for 10 minutes . . . then stir it, and it's done.
 
Am I the only one who knows about a microwave? LOL!!!

Here we go…it’s a weekend. Too hot to cook inside. So you’ll fire up the BBQ!!!
And the list you’ve been waiting for….the 7 most common burger mistakes
 
1.  Not Buying Enough Meat.  For a good sized burger, it's six ounces.  Then you multiply that by how many burgers you plan to make. 
So if you're making four burgers, that means one-and-a-half pounds of meat.  If you want 12 burgers, it's four-and-a-half pounds.
  
2.  Buying Hamburger That's Too Lean.  Most people tend to like burgers that are 80% lean and 20% fat.  Any lower than that, and they won't have enough flavor.
 
3.  Over-Handling the Meat.  The more you handle it and mash it together, the less tender it is. SO make your burger patty. . . don't pack it too tightly . . . then season it and throw it on the grill.
 
4.  Buying Big Buns, but Making Tiny Burgers.  Meaning they don't match up, so you're left with a ball of meat in the middle of way too much bun.
 Shape the burger patties so they're about one inch wider in diameter than the hamburger buns are.  That allows room for them to shrink while they cook.  And as for thickness, don't go above three-quarters of an inch.
  
5. Pressing the Patties with a Spatula While They Cook.  All it does is drain the juices and dry it out, which means less taste. 
 
6.  Adding the Cheese Too Soon.  There's no reason to add it until the very end . . . about two minutes before you want to pull the burgers off.  Any earlier than that, and you'll end up with liquid cheese all over the grill.
 
7.  Shutting the Lid to Speed Things Up.  Burgers should only take about 10 minutes anyway. Four minutes per side, then you flip it one more time, add cheese, and wait two more minutes.

Yep…too many rules. Lets just meet at Red Robin!!! They’ll have the air on!!!

If there is ever a “pet” peeve of mine…this is it.
People who walk their dogs or let their dogs out and don’t clean up the mess…
Hate..hate..hate it!!!
 
Whether it’s my neighborhood or someone else’s!!
So this is the story of the day!!
Comes from a town in Spain called Brunete.
 
They’ve formed a team of volunteers who secretly wander the streets, looking for people who don't pick up after their dogs.
 
 
When they see someone leave poop behind, they walk up to the person and strike up a conversation.  And during the conversation, they find out the dog's name and breed.  They also pick up the poop.
 
 
Afterward, they' plug the dog's info into the city's pet database to figure out who owns the dog and where they live.  Then they take the dog poop the person left behind, put it in a box that says "Lost Property," and MAIL it to their house.
 
 
In one week, they mailed 147 poop packages, Guess what has happened since? A 70% drop in the amount of dog poop on the streets.

Favorite summertime drink….Could it be a margarita? I sure love them…and yes you’ve got to have salt. So you can bet I noticed this headline today…You can get a rash from your margarita!!!
 
 So here come the details…
 
When you squeeze a lime into a drink like a margarita, a little of the oil from the lime gets on your hand.  When you drink it, the lime gets on your lips.
 
And if you suffer from an allergy called phytophotodermatitis, when the sun hits that lime oil, it can cause a RASH that's similar to poison ivy.  Scientists have nicknamed it "margarita dermatitis."
  
You probably don't know if you have phytophotodermatitis or not . . . but if you notice you're getting weird blisters on your hand or mouth after you have a margarita this summer, that could be the reason.
 
If you get the rash, go to a doctor, and they can give you something to treat it in a few days.  Otherwise, it will fade . . . but that can take a few weeks. 
 And if you don’t get the rash….just keep on drinking…LOL!!
I think I’m in the clear….but I might need to do further tasting…I mean testing!!!

Here’s your germ story of the day…
I don’t know how I always find them…but I do!!!
 
A study of fast food places found more bacteria on the Ice from the Ice machines than in the toilets!!! It happened at about 6 out of ten places they tested, and included the big ones…McDonalds, Burger King and KFC. It doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get sick from drinking out of cups with nasty food ice, but you could be at risk. All I can say is I haven’t gotten sick yet…and I’m always stopping in for a soda!!!
 
So what’s the deal….they think workers clean the bathrooms a lot more often than they do the ice machine…so there you have it.
Will it change your habits?…bet not…but I also think you’ll remember I told you this next time you go to the fountain machine…
 
And a BTW….perfect tie-in for this story out of Hong Kong.  Had it early this morning…A Starbucks is using toilet water to bre?w coffee. I don’t know why…but here’s the funny… “People can't decide if they should be outraged about drinking toilet water or outraged they just paid $2.50 for a cup of toilet water."
