I’m guessing we’re all still thinking about Fathers Day…Hopefully it was a sweet day for you. The Facebook posts and pictures yesterday were just wonderful. But I know it can also be a tough day. I noticed on FB a few single Moms were getting to enjoy Fathers Day as well. In fact, my Christina wished me a Happy Fathers day. Mike’s been gone for 7 years now. The day is always bittersweet for all of us who have lost a husband or a father.
And yes I go to the cemetery every year to Mike’s grave and to my Dads and I’ve got to tell you and maybe you’ve experienced this yourself there is nothing like Fathers Day at the cemetery. I’m talking Oak Hill at Curtner and Monterey. They have to do crowd control. You can’t find a place to park, let alone drive. And it smells like the best dang BBQ ever. Families make it a whole day visiting a loved one. Sometimes there are Mariachi bands, people set up those big blue tents and have lots of ice chests and lawn chairs. One chair I saw yesterday had a huge Dad’s t shirt on it. People bring out balloons. It really is different than Mothers Day, and while it may sound odd, it’s such a good time. I love the fact that families can do that…celebrate instead of mourn…and have a good time “with Dad”. The cemetery believe it or not is such a festive place on Fathers Day. It’s a party!!!! Now my Dad is buried in Los Gatos. Not such a big party over there, but I’ve got to say everyone I ran into said hi and gave me a smile. It was a good way to “celebrate” Dad’s Day and remember 2 great men!!!
