That time of year…graduation!!
I love graduations…you too?
I don’t even care if my kids are graduating…I just love the day. I try to make it every year to the graduation at Presentation High School. Principal Mary Miller always gives a wonderful good by to the girls with some great words of wisdom. Jeff’s daughter graduated this weekend at Pepperdine and while the speaker wasn’t the best I’ve heard the day was just wonderful.
Here’s a speaker who was wonderful…Actress Sandra Bullock. She spoke to graduating seniors at Warren Easton Charter High School in New Orleans which she adopted after Hurricane Katrina. She has since given thousands of dollars but what she said yesterday was priceless.
"You have to dance a little bit before you step out in the world, because it changes the way you walk . . . Eat something green every day . . . Do not pick your nose in public . . . How about we just go get a tissue? . . .
"When someone who cares about you hugs you, hug them back with two arms . . .
"If someone doesn't want to play with you, it's okay. Not everyone is going to love us . . .
"And last but not least go find your joy. It's what you're going to remember in the end. It's not the worry; it's not the what-ifs. It's the joy that stays with you. And I want to thank you for the joy that Warren Easton brings me every day."
So great. I love that she spoke in simple terms…and hit all the basics…especially the part about finding your own joy!
Your commencement address like mine was probably ages and ages again. Actually, I didn’t even go to my college graduation. I would have been so mad at my girls if they did that, but my parents for some reason let it go. But what about your commencement speech…...any life lessons you still remember?
