I don't know about you...but the WORLD SERIES is a big deal to me....even if my
teams not in. But the Giants are in it this year, so it's even better.
I absolutely love baseball. I thank Derek Jeter for that!!!
So I watch the pre game show..the game and the post game show. I can't get enough.
And I love the singing of the National Anthem. And I love the fact that we now do America the Beautiful although I know a lot of people wish we would go back to the fun Take Me out to the Ballgame. I guess that is now reserved for those actually at the ball park. I actually wish we did both on TV.
So here's who Fox has picked to sing the National Anthem for the first 4 games...and who knows maybe that's all the Giants will need LOL!! Yes, I doubt it too!!
Trish Yearwood tonite in Kansas City
Phillip Phillips tomorrow nite. Remember this is Fox, home to American Idol
And then for us at AT and T ….country quartet Little Big Town and then Santana with his son Salvador for an instrumental version.
Are you also a World Series fan....no matter what the team?
Do you turn it into a big deal...like me?
I even get a bag of peanuts out to eat on the couch in front of the TV.
NBC has picked up a new series that will be based on the 2008 movie "Marley and Me".
The show is supposed to pick up where the movie left off...with John and Jenny Grogan
aka Jennifer Anniston and Owen Wilson moving back to Florida with their three kids.
And since Marley has passed on..the Grogans will adopt a new dog and -get ready for Kleenex-
give the pooch Marley's old tag and collar and name it after their late best friend.
Could be cute...but they better not think this is a replacement for Parenthood....LOL
because there is no replacement!!!! End of story
Haven't been thrilled with Dancing with the Stars. Was happy not to watch last week but I think I'm in for tonite... Pit Bull is the guest host. Yes, I think someone kidnapped Len and is holding him hostage in the attic of some dance studio...and since Erin Andrews is in Kansas City covering the World Series Leah Remini will be the co host. She should be good!!
There's only one thing to watch starting tomorrow …
I don't know about you, but I don't cook on weekends.
Wait a minute..what am I saying...I don't cook on weekdays either...LOL
I do eat out a lot...and it's tough because I am always dieting!
I eat a lot of salad...with balsamic dressing and chicken.
Boring...but for me it works...
But this is great if you do like to eat out...and you are on a diet.
A study from Cornell on where to sit in a restaurant when you're counting
calories and it does make sense.
Find a table that's well lit- Apparently if you sit in a dark section, you eat more. I guess you figure no one is looking.
Sit close to the door- People who sit farthest from the door eat fewer salads and more desserts. Same reasoning I guess...not as many people see you when you're away from the door.
Sit at a table, not a booth. People who eat at booths order fattier foods and eat more. People at high top tables start with a salad and skip dessert. I always pick a booth though...I don't think eating at tables is as cozy..so maybe that's why you eat less. You're ready to leave quicker
And don't sit facing a TV...Hey this works at home too. Don't you always eat more in front of the TV?
I joined the Giants bandwagon late....but I've been on it since the first World Series win in 2010...and then 2012...and then 2014. It is an even year!!!
Watched the Sopranos and Sex and the City when they were already in reruns.
Never missed an episode though once I realized they were must-see TV..
I was forced to stop using my IBM selectric and switch to a PC by the KBAY engineer only about 15 years ago... They didnt go for my "Do you know who I am" line...they made me switch cold turkey...
A late bloomer on Facebook...Twitter....have yet to even do Instagram...
and a late bloomer on Netflix...But I have it now...Only have used it for two shows...Orange is the New Black and House of Cards. I havent even watched a movie on it..Or any other series..
But that may change come January. Netflix January first is going to start streaming all 10 seasons of Friends...which just passed it's 20th anniversary. Now...I wasnt a late bloomer on Friends..I started watching from Day One...and I know you can see it on TV ...on almost every cable channel any day of the week...but not in order. So this may be the third series I watch on Netflix...
Okay..go ahead give me everything you watch on Netflix...Give me something else to be a late bloomer on!!!
Silly story this morning on hotel perks that super rich people can get.
I'm in luck because I'm actually not interested in any of them...
In Oman at the Six Senses Hideaway....where a room is $1800 a night you get a guide who will para glide you from the top of a mountain to the front door to check in.
At the Hotel Monaco in Portland, a pet psychic is on hand to help you figure out what you pet is thinking. The room rate is $500. I actually called a pet psychic for free once...yet on the phone...to figure out whether it was my 2 cats or my dog daisy who was peeing on my couch. She determined quickly it was Daisy. And don't worry you can still come over. I have a special "pee" protector that I keep on my couch whenever I'm not at home, I will remove it for you!!!
At the Four Seasons in Maldives, for $2900 a night a special phone phone rings in your room to let you know if manta rays have been spotted in the ocean...so you can rush to a private speedboat to see them.
At the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, for $19,000 a night suite, you have a Lamborghini for use 24/7
And at the Namale Resort and Spa in Fiji for $19,000 a week you can be "kidnapped" to a secret waterfall for a romantic picnic. For that price, I'd want a picnic and dinner!!
Look at these perks and the prices for these "free" perks, I am just happy to get freshly baked cookies in the lobby at 3 and wine from 4-6!!!
Back from my weekend away with my "Morgan Hill Gang''....although most of us no longer live there.
But its one of my favorite weekends of the year....9 girlfriends of 20 plus years spending a weekend catching up...laughing...eating, drinking..laughing, eating drinking, laughing and solving the problems of the world.....or in my case this weekend ...how to figure out which pants are blue and which are black.
I dont even know how we got on this subject. I think we were talking about the new navy blue loafers 3 of us had just bought...yes we all bought the same pair of shoes....and I said "now if I could figure out which pants in my closet were blue". You just cant tell..I have about 10 pair of black pants...and two navy blue and I will go from window to window in my house trying to figure out which one is blue.
And I still cant figure it out...so half the time I'm wearing black instead of blue.
But finally a tip on solving this dilemna. Janette may have been the smartest when she said hold up a blue next to the black..and then its very obvious...but what about the next time? Sharon had the best idea of them all...she said once I know which ones are blue...take out a sharpie and write blue on the inside label. BINGO!!
I assume color blind people have long done that.
And I hear Ryan Seacrest in his new clothing line for men at Macys is going to put dots on the inside labels so you know which shirts go with which pants and jackets. One dot matches one dot...etc etc.
Sort of like "Giranimals" for kids. What a great idea especially for men who most of the time can never figure out what goes with what... which is what they have us for!!!
You ever sneak into a restaurant...just to use the bathroom?
I do it all the time...even if there's a sign on the door that says
for customers only. Sometimes I will buy something but I will confess there are many times I don't, I pretend I am but just keep on walling.
And when you have to go, you have to go and since I don't use port-a-potty...I look for a restaurant. I do it when we do our shows at festivals and I do it when I'm walking around town.
Ilana Scheinker apparently does it too. Who is she...Ilana is a woman in Phoenix and she and her husband were walking down a street...near a Starbucks when they popped in so she could use the bathroom. Shes pregnant...and you remember those days!!
The problem is at Starbucks..you often need a code to get into the bathroom so when the husband asked for it, the barrista told him...he had to make a purchase. They argued back and forth and finally hubby said here's my credit card..charge me for anything just give me the code. The barrista still refused and told them to go down the street to Fry's if they wanted to use the bathroom.
They did....Starbucks later apologized...but now they're suing for $10 grand!!! (or maybe a dozen Frappuccino's) LOL!
Best of the best may be the cop in Michigan who pulled over a woman the other night
because her 5 year old wasn't in a car seat. When the woman said it was her friends car...
and that her own car with the car seat in it had been repossessed the officer instead of giving her the ticket told her to meet him at the Nearby Walmart and he would buy her a car seat. She did, he did and he said it was the best $50 bucks he had ever been spent.
But speaking of best of the best...
You know how I love Mickey D's...
And I saw this morning they are tops in a new survey for best breakfast...and best fries.
Best burger though went to 5 Guys which actually tied with Burger King.
I ,believe it or not, have never been to 5 Guys..There are 2 fairly close to my house, but when they first started opening here I read they had a zillion calories so I've never gone.
I wish someone would make me go....LOL so I would have no choice but to try one.
Healthiest fast food... Subway (cant argue that one)
Favorite Overall fast food chain...Chick-fil-A...and I think you can argue that one!!!!
or in this case a young woman...who I didn't know but I felt like I did.
You may have actually had the same experience.
A year ago Sept 22, CSU Chico nursing student Kristina Chesterman was riding her bike home from the school library when she was hit by a drunk driver. She died 2 days later. Kristina was from Livermore so the tragedy was in the news here for days. I can remember covering her life and death like it was yesterday. And I remember all the sweet pictures and posts that ended up on my FB timeline. I had no idea I would ever meet her family until one Saturday morning when Sam and I were emceeing the downtown San Jose kidney walk that we were asked to introduce the Chesterman's...Sandra and Dave who donated one of Kristina's kidneys to save a life here and if I remember right, I think in death, Kristina's organs saved 5 lives.
This morning I got a note from Kristina's Dad Dave. He told me about the 2 beautiful vigils they had for Kristina last month...one in Chico where 150 people including most of her nursing classmates and the School president walked from the library to the scene of the crash and also how a former classmate held the Kristina Chesterman's Memorial horse endurance ride: "Live, Love, Laugh, Ride." Kristina loved horses. And now there is a documentary called "The Power of the Heart" which has Kristina's story woven through it. If you Google the name of it, you can download it for a small fee.
And so many have. The Chestermans are hearing from people all over the world who like me and maybe you know how special Kristina was....and how her legacy of kindness and compassion can never be forgotten. I never got to meet Kristina but I am so glad I got to meet her parents Dave and Sandra.
The things I see in the morning while I'm prepping for the show...
A lot of them are useless...but not this one!
Comes from AARP Magazine...which I admit I get but never read....unless you tell me there are coupons in it because if there are...then I will start..LOL
But this is a good one...You're behind the wheel and you have to go to the bathroom really really badly. Do you find a restroom right away or do you just "hold" it until you get to wherever you're going?
I usually try and hold it!! But scientists say for the sake of your bladder and everyone on the road, pull over. Turns out, and this does make sense, when you're faced with the strong urge to urinate, your cognitive functions are impaired as if you had been drinking or are sleep impaired.
So there you go...next time make a potty run!!!
And one more thing I learned today...
Fours the limit when it comes to multi-tasking!..that you cant keep more than 3 or 4 ideas or tasks in your head at the same time. More than 4 and your brain simply overloads and starts dropping things.
This one I'm not sure about...I think I can do at least 6 things at once..maybe more...Just ask Sam!!!
This day is just screaming out for a sweet story....a good story
so here it is..
Was perfect for this mornings "Isn't it Nice" at 6:45.
And of course it has to do with firefighters.
Let's be real..when isn't there a good story about firefighters?
Happened the other day in Corona..down near LA..which is also baking in hot weather.
11 in the morning...a guy in his 50s...Willy G is mowing his lawn.
He passed out in the sun
and falls face down in his driveway.
A neighbor calls 911...and in a matter of minutes the firefighters arrive.
They get him stabilized, and send him to the hospital to deal with the cuts on his face.
But once he was gone, the firefighters noticed the lawn looked terrible. It was half-mowed....so what did they do...Remember they're firefighters...They mowed it for him!!! They even cleaned up all the grass clippings when they were done..
They said they knew Willy's family was upset and stressed out...so they wanted to do something nice for them.
Similar story from Santa Barbara where an 81 year old woman tripped on some shrubs and broke her arm. They finished the job for her!!!
Can I say it again...firefighters are a cut above the rest!!!
No No No...Note to Andy Bravo....do not rehire Bethany Frankel back as a New York Housewife..
but if you insist...it's only fair to rehire Jill Zarin. Now that would make sense. They were pals one week...enemies the next. Jill was my favorite housewife..and I've never liked Bethany. I don't think many people do. I don't care what Andy thinks...hes wrong..LOL
I love Jill so much that when I was in New York last year, I went into her husbands fabric store. Didn't find her..very disappointed...
You heard about Mistresses..which I absolutely love...ABC has renewed it for season 3, but Alyssa Milano has quit saying she wont relocate to Vancouver where it's going to be shot for money reasons. She just had her second child....and doesn't want to I guess take the kids away from her husband their dad..to shoot the show.
Black-ish..have you watched it? Its on after Modern Family. After I heard it had almost the same ratings as Modern Family, I got it off On Demand and watched it...Didn't like it. Wonder if it was any better last nite. Critics say its "mortifying, offensive, distasteful and condescending. So obviously this is no Cosby Show. I actually agree with the critics..I just didn't get it...
And the other show I didn't really care for and I may be the only one is the Thursday Night How to get Away with Murder. I stopped watching after 10 minutes. The two new shows I do love are Madame Secretary and the Mysteries of Laura.
What about you...your hits and misses for the new season?
