Chicago was the beloved home of my parents (and me for awhile) but they found it sweeter here in the Bay Area. FORBES Magazine just named the MOST MISERABLE CITIES, which some argue is soooo wrong! Did you find any surprises on this list? ...
1. Detroit, Mich.
2. Flint, Mich.
3. Rockford, Ill.
4. Chicago, Ill.
5. Modesto, Calif.

6. Vallejo, Calif.
7. Warren, Mich.
8. Stockton, Calif.
9. Lake County, Ill.
10. New York, N.Y.
11. Toledo, Ohio
12. St. Louis, Mo.
13. Camden, N.J.
14. Milwaukee, Wisc.
15. Atlantic City, N.J.
16. Atlanta, Ga.
17. Cleveland, Ohio
18. Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
19. Gary, Ind.
20. Youngstown, Ohio

Janie Freeman Modesto isn'tthat bad. It's not as pretty as the Bay Area though.
Paul Keller My opinion? Lima, OH should top this list.
André-Marié D. Bond Modesto is a bit shocking to see as well as Vallejo but perhaps this will hopefully give their city commerce a wake up call?
Jeff Fancher It's all about the criteria they used. And it's still very subjective. I'm not surprised by some of them. But what matters most is whether you like where you live.
Joseph Demarest Modesto - car theft capital of California
Dee Douglas i am quite positive that the people who wrote the list have never been to scottsville, ky or they surely would have put us there. no jobs, businesses drying up, everyone losing or selling their homes.... it's getting pretty sad and i know few who live here who are not miserable.
Pamela Smith Spahn Atlantic City is not so bad, though I haven't been there in quite a while.
Joseph Demarest surprised I don't see Oakland, Ca on the list...
Alan Termine One mans trash is another mans treasure! You can by a house dirt cheap in Detroit
Ofelia Pena McCain How about Richmond and Stockton?
Robert H Kruse First place is a week in Bakersfield, second place is two weeks in Bakersfield. Not to mention the worst air quality in the nation!
Ofelia Pena McCain At least Chicago has major sport!s teams.
Katie Robinson Finally, a bad list that Bakersfield is not on!
Katie Robinson Robert, I love living in Bakersfield. I moved her for my job about 10 yrs ago and discovered that bakersfield is the best kept secret in all of CA! The people are friendly, caring and generous. The cost of living is affordable, there's plenty to see an...See More
Jona Denz-Hamilton to Ofelia Pena McCain: Stockton is #8 on the list. Oakland's crime rate is sad, but I think the city's other amenities kept it off the list.
